We sent out a questionnaire and interviewed some customers on what they thought could be improved with ostrich pillow.
Feedback grouped, themed and visualised in a hierarchy of keywords.
A multitude of different filling materials of different sizes, shapes and weights were used to fill a standard op and tested with users. Notable materials included memory foam balls and expanded polystyrene beads (among many others). Evaluations discussed comfort, heat, weight, noise and cost. A smaller expanded polystyrene ball was decided upon for implementation across all product lines.
Based upon the feedback given a multitude of directions were explored.
After three directions were selected rough prototypes were developed for evaluation.
The design was further developed through discussions with the manufacturers to optimize the production time. We even developed a "filling machine" with the manufacturers specifically for filling the pillows with our beads.
A pre production model was manufactured, tweaked and the design signed off.
Packaging was developed through an iterative process
and optimised for international shipping, palletisation and in store display.
